AN ALL TIME TUMBLR HIGH

incredibly enough, i am writing my own ORIGINAL tumblr post instead of reblogging something. as you may have already known, i am a big nerd who has been playing video games since i’ve been 5, basically 17 years. gaming has come a long way since SNES. with video games growing in popularity, the industry changed to suit people’s needs: instead of just constant ass-kicking, in the best games, we find character development, purpose, and an engrossing plot with an acceptable amount of ass-kicking. if you’re lucky, you might even find a game with a believable romance and a female character who isn’t a complete damsel in distress(instead of the tried and true “unrealistic horseshit love story”).

in the gaming industry, there are a few names that are very familiar: EA/Bioware, Square-Enix(originally Squaresoft), and Blizzard. however, often, these companies don’t care about the people who buy their games(EA/Bioware, for example, puts software onto your computer without your consent which makes sure you aren’t pirating it). but for the first time, i was actually deeply impressed by them anyway.

Bioware is currently a very popular company in the industry, having made Baldur’s Gate I and II, Mass Effect I and II, and now Dragon Age I and II. Mass Effect(ME) and Dragon Age(DA) are both games of an open world format, allowing the player to make decisions regarding where to go next depending on a variety of quests/the main storyline of the game. you create your character in each of these games, choosing their abilities, designing their appearance and deciding on their sex. you can also pursue friendships, rivalries or relationships with your companions in the game. they allow for hetero or homosexual couplings, which was something that thrilled me. to this point, there have been limited to no realistic gay representation in the gaming industry.

in DAII, apparently, there is a bisexual male character who will come on to your character, regardless of their sex. on the forums, there have been straight male gamers in an uproar, claiming that Bioware is ignoring the most important part of their fanbase and their biggest demographic. incredibly, a staff member responded to this.

david galder, you’re dreamy. :)
